Knight, Gibson Will Judge 'American Juniors' Deborah Gibson, who knows a thing or two about being a child star, has been picked to be one of the judges for FOX's "American Juniors."
She'll be joined on the kiddie talent search by Gladys Knight, who was a guest judge on "American Idol" this spring and coined the nickname "Velvet Teddy Bear" for eventual winner Ruben Studdard. The two join the show Tuesday (June 17), when the audience begins voting for finalists. Also Tuesday, original "Idol" runner-up Justin Guarini will sit in with Gibson and Knight as a guest judge. It's a safe bet his forthcoming album and the movie "From Justin to Kelly," opening Friday, will get a mention.
Both Gibson and Knight started singing as children. Gibson made her debut at New York's Metropolitan Opera House at age 8 and a was a pop star at age 16, scoring a string of hits in the late 1980s and early '90s. Knight appeared on "Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour" at age 7 and has had a long career, winning several Grammys.
The "American Juniors" judges will give letter grades to the young performers for their singing and dancing abilities. Viewers will vote one kid each week into the final five, who will then make up a band. Related Shows
